ERA REAL ESTATE TO PRESENT CONTRIBUTION AT THE 2005 JERRY LEWIS MDA TELETHON
– Real estate network joins together to raise its fundraising total by more than 30 percent over prior year – PARSIPPANY, NJ, August 30, 2005 – For the 28th consecutive year, ERA Real Estate will take part in the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon on Labor Day Weekend to support the fight against neuromuscular diseases. ERA Real Estate will present the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) with a check for $775,000 on behalf of the fundraising efforts conducted by its network of affiliate brokers and sales associates. P.J. Martin Smith, senior vice president of marketing for ERA Real Estate, who also serves as an MDA national vice president, will present the donation to host Jerry Lewis. James Grandon, Jr., president of Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA in Camp Hill, Pa., will appear with Martin Smith. Raising more than $50,000, Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA won ERA Real Estate's "Ed Bilinkas Memorial Award" as the affiliate company that collected the most funds for MDA. As part of its overall efforts on behalf of MDA, ERA Real Estate conducted its annual "A Day in May for MDA" campaign. Each May, ERA brokerages and sales associates take part in a coast-to-coast fundraising event by selecting one day in May to raise funds for MDA by hosting bowl-a-thons, black-tie galas, golf tournaments, garage sales or other fundraising events. This year, ERA Real Estate raised more than $360,000 in the month of May alone. "The collective efforts by ERA® affiliates on behalf of MDA is truly impressive and admirable," said Martin Smith. "Each year, our goal is to increase the financial support we can provide and our sales associates and brokers managed to get it done once again. To continue this success, we are committed to developing new turnkey fundraisers to make it as simple and easy as possible for our affiliates to support this worthy cause." ERA Real Estate introduced two new programs to help bolster its support for MDA this year. Through ERA.com, consumers can sign up to rent movies from Netflix, an online movie rental subscription service, for as low as $9.99 per month. For each new customer who signs up for a full month of service, a donation of $22.50 will be made to MDA on behalf of the local ERA broker. The second turnkey fundraiser is the new ERA/MDA Sign Rider program. This program designates listings where the broker, sales associate, buyer and/or seller agree to make a contribution to MDA by placing a special sign rider on the "for sale" sign of the property. ERA Real Estate began its partnership with MDA in the battle against neuromuscular diseases in 1977. It is the sole corporate sponsor of MDA from the real estate industry and has consistently been among the top contributors to the organization each year. Over the years, ERA Real Estate has raised more than $30 million to fund research and provide services to help more than one million Americans affected by muscular dystrophy.
