THE 'QUEEN OF NEW YORK REAL ESTATE' BARBARA CORCORAN TO ADDRESS HONOREES AT THE ERA REAL ESTATE 2003 LEADERSHIP AWARDS DINNER
Founder and chair of The Corcoran Group to speak before top ERA® affiliates PARSIPPANY, NJ, March 5, 2003 – ERA Real Estate announced today that Barbara Corcoran, founder and chair of New York's premier residential real estate brokerage firm, The Corcoran Group, and author of "Use What You've Got: And Other Business Lessons I Learned from My Mom," will speak at the ERA 2003 Leadership Team Awards Dinner on March 14, 2003 in San Diego, CA. "We are delighted that Ms. Corcoran will speak at our annual awards gala," says Brenda W. Casserly, president and COO, ERA Real Estate. "It is especially fitting that Ms. Corcoran, known nationwide for her entrepreneurial spirit and real estate savvy, will speak to the ERA brand's the best of the best." While Corcoran is considered one of the most powerful brokers in the country, her childhood wasn't as glamorous. She grew up in Edgewater, NJ, sharing a bedroom with five sisters and a bathroom with nine siblings and her parents. After moving from one dead end job to another – eventually holding more than 20 by the time she was 23 years old – Corcoran borrowed $1,000 from a boyfriend and quit her job as a diner waitress to start a real estate company. Through her hard work and dedication, The Corcoran Group evolved into New York City's leading real estate company, with 11 offices, 700 salespeople, more than $4 billion in revenue, and clients ranging from Madonna to Harrison Ford. In late 2001, Corcoran sold her brokerage to NRT Incorporated (a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation), the nation's largest residential real estate company. She still remains active in the business as its chairperson. Corcoran recounts her success story in her newly released book, "Use What You've Got: And Other Business Lessons I Learned from My Mom," which reveals her secret to success through applying her mother's advice to her career. Corcoran said she followed her mother's homespun wisdom from "it's your game, make up your own rules" to "never be ashamed of who you are" and "maximize the positive and minimize the negative" as she built her real estate empire. The annual ERA 2003 International Business Conference is the foremost event in a range of opportunities available to ERA affiliates for professional development through seminars and speakers, networking, and recreation. The ERA Leadership Team Awards honors the brand's affiliates who exemplify the very highest standards of professionalism, leadership and dedication.
